Maryland Fires Strength Coach Rick Court Amid Football Scandal

Maryland has fired strength and conditioning coach Rick Court following an explosive report detailing a 'toxic' culture surrounding the football program, AD Damon Evans announced at a press conference on Tuesday.

The future of head coach DJ Durkin remains to be seen.

Court's departure comes the week after an ESPN report shed light on the university's responsibility in the death of Jordan McNair, a 19-year-old offensive lineman. McNair passed away earlier this summer as a result of a heatstroke suffered during a May 29 workout.

According to Brett McMurphy, Maryland President Wallace D. Loh said the following at the press conference.

"The university accepts legal and moral responsibility for the mistakes our training staff made."

McMurphy suggests that Durkin's future with the team centers around whether the school can determine if there was indeed a 'toxic' culture as reported.
