NBA
-The Los Angeles Lakers (53-13) host the Philadelphia 76ers (33-31) tonight; tip-off is at 7:30 pm.
-The Lakers players brushed off coach Phil Jackson?s suggestion that they don?t have a killer instinct.
-The Los Angeles Clippers (16-50) are in Golden State to play the Warriors (23-43) tonight; tip-off is at 7:30 pm.
-The Warriors will be without swingmen Stephen Jackson and Jamal Crawford for the game. Jackson was suspended 1 game by the league after receiving his 16th technical foul of the season Monday, and Crawford will not play tonight or Thursday against the Lakers because coach Don Nelson wants to play the younger guys.
-Houston Rockets player Carl Landry was shot in the leg late last night in a possible drive by shooting. Landry was released after being treated with flesh wounds and a dislocated finger on his left hand at a local Hospital. The forward could be out 1 to 3 weeks.
-New Jersey Nets forward Sean Williams has been arrested and charged with felony criminal mischief after an altercation with a clerk at a cell phone store in shopping mall 20 miles outside of Denver. According to police Williams had a verbal altercation with the clerk, and picked up a computer monitor and threw it. He was also charged with misorderly conduct, a misdemeanor.
-Sacramento Kings guard Bobby Jackson will undergo corrective surgery to repair a fractured left cheekbone and his playing status for the remainder of the season will be determined afterwards.
-New York Knicks rookie Danilo Gallinari?s back has flared up again and the forward/ guard is going to Italy to discuss more options with doctors. He has not been ruled out for the remainder of the season, yet.
-The Oklahoma City Thunder beat the San Antonio Spurs 78-76 in Gregg Popovich?s 1,000th game as a head coach.
NFL
-According to sources the New England Patriots are in talks to acquire All-Pro defensive end/ linebacker Julius Peppers from the Carolina Panthers. Reports suggest the Patriots would acquire the 4 time pro bowler for the second round pick (34th overall) they acquired from the Kansas City Chiefs for quarterback Matt Cassel and linebacker Mike Vrabel. The Carolina Panthers are denying the reports.
-Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler has asked for a trade but the team doesn?t want to do so. It seems the two sides are in a draw but don?t expect it to play out to long Denver Post reporter Mike Klis says.
-The Jacksonville Jaguars have released troubled wide out Matt Jones after his latest brush with the law.
-President Barack Obama will nominate Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney as ambassador to Ireland.
-DeMaurice Smith has been named the head of N.F.L. Union replacing the late Gene Upshaw.
-Wisconsin tailback and potential draft prospect P.J. Hill was arrested on several charges including DUI.

-The New Orleans Saints signed defensive end Paul Spicer to a one-year contract.
MLB
-The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without Manny El Maniaco Ramirez for at least a week with a sore left hamstring.
-Philadelphia Phillies doctors found no structural damage in Cole Hamels throwing elbow during an examination. The World Series MVP was given an anti-inflammatory injection and will not throw for two days; it?s unclear if he will be ready for opening day.
-Ivan Rodriguez has finally found a team to play on this season as he signed a one-year, $1.5 million deal with the Houston Astros.
-Boston Red Sox shortstop Julio Lugo will not be ready for opening day after undergoing minor knee surgery.
