LOS ANGELES – Reggie Miller’s No. 31 became the ninth jersey to be raised into Pauley Pavilion’s rafters during halftime of Wednesday’s crosstown rivalry game between UCLA and USC.
“Let’s bring back those short shorts,” Miller joked after a highlight video of his UCLA career was shown to the crowd.
He was joined at mid-court by UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero and his nephew Darrell Miller Jr. – an incoming freshman on UCLA’s baseball team – and presented with a framed jersey.
Miller didn’t expect Guerrero to come calling, especially because former Bruin Ed O’Bannon’s No. 31 already resides in the building.
“I thought those days had passed by,” Miller said to media members after the ceremony. “I never thought something like this would happen. When you think about all the great players that have come through this building, I’m not even close on the radar to a lot of them. It’s a little humbling.”
