The Petros and Money Show welcomed UCLA basketball coach Ben Howland and asked him about the USC firing of their head coach Kevin O'Neill.
Howland: "I was really surprised. I have great respect for Kevin, number one. I think he’s a very good coach. He’s a veteran coach who’s been in this business along time. We have a very good friendship. I know what a great job he’s done with so many of the players there. Look at Vucevic and his development under Kevin for example... I was really surprised. They just beat Dayton at home in their last non-conference game, which has a really solid team. They’re 2-2 in conference. I was very, very surprised." He added, "We were lucky to escape with a victory in Salt Lake and they went in there on Saturday and crushed Utah by like 17 or 19, I mean they were really riding high coming into this week, so I was very taken aback by it and obviously I feel for Kevin because were are good friends."
They also asked UCLA basketball coach Ben Howland about a bus incident the team had in Salt Lake City last week before the game vs Utah. He then told the guys a really fun story about their wild adventure getting to the arena.
Howland: "That was an unbelievable deal. So we’re in Salt Lake and we have to get up to the gym, which is about three miles from downtown and its up on the hill. And all of sudden a snow storm hit, which everybody expected, there is a lot snow that comes to Salt Lake every year. It was unbelievable how it just shut things down." He continued, "It took us forty minutes to go three miles because it was just gridlock and our bus driver is going up this hill and if he slows down at all we’re going to slide back down it, so he’s continuing to gun it knowing that there is a truck right next to him that is doing the same thing and he may slide back and hit us. But he knows that if he doesn’t go for it, were going to be stuck and so he goes for it, we both make it, unbelievable play. I told him after the game, that I gave him the MVP."
