Happy 2013 sports fans! I hope you all had a great holiday and are back doin’ it big in the new year. In the spirit of the season, I thought I would use my inaugural 2013 blog to bring you some of the best sports holiday videos of the past few years.
The NBA owns Christmas, and they always find a way to do it right. This year, they chose to debut some snazzy new uniforms during all of their Christmas day games. Were you a fan?
I personally liked the new get-ups. They had a really nice pop on the court – kinda reminded me of Christmas decorations! (Hmm, that was probably the point…)
Last year, TNT took a shot at their “Inside the NBA” anchors with a hilarious Christmas ad that compared today’s rising stars to yesterday’s legends... which Christmas package would you rather get?
Somehow that kid didn’t quite sell me on his love for Dirk Nowitzki…
Now on to one of the, odder, holiday commercials I’ve seen… Once upon a time, there was a puppeteer who thought it would be a good idea to make two of basketball’s greatest stars into puppets and have them play basketball with Santa Claus and some reindeer. Think I’m kidding?
That video was so weird I honestly don't even know what to say... Anyone else have a weird feeling in their tummy now?
Getting back to some real basketball players… One of the best parts of the holidays is athletes singing Christmas carols! And there’s no athlete out there who loves to sing more than Dirk Nowitzki. Here, he and his Mavericks teammates take on “Sleigh Ride.”
While the Mavs can’t seem to remember the words to their song, a few other NBA players decided to make up their own. Forgive me for pointing out that the Clippers continue to dominate everyone else…
And finally, I leave you with one college basketball clip. Apparently there’s a school in Indiana called Taylor University, and apparently every year they put on what they’ve dubbed a “Silent Night” game. I had never heard of either of these things before I saw this clip, but now I’m super jealous and wish I had gone to this school…
(Note: this audio is not muted)
The point of the costumes, I’m not sure, but I get chills every time I watch that video…
Have a great 2013 all! Good luck keeping your resolutions…
