This is 40 (Opens Nationwide Dec 21st) is the spinoff sequel to the comedy hit from 2007 Knocked Up. Directed by Judd Apatow.
This Is 40 tells the Story of Pete (Paul Rudd) & Debbie (Leslie Mann) who are one of the many couples you out there reading this probably know. They are approaching their 40th birthday, big house, two kids, white picket fence they whole great life, well at least that’s what they want you to think. Pete is in lots of debt and Leslie doesn’t really want you to know her real age, their daughters fight a lot and both their fathers are not exactly something to right home about. To me this sounds like real life and that’s what I love about this movie, it is real life. Many people go through these problems in their life, trying to fulfill this persona but not living in truth, maybe their lives are funny but this family and movie is.
Paul Rudd is great reprising his role of Pete, he can play the father and yet be young and funny, meanwhile Leslie Mann can be the mother and still be young and sexy. I was drawn to the chemistry between these two and the amount of laughs along the way.
Great support from both Albert Brooks and John Lithgow as their parents respectively plus Megan Fox, remember her Transformers, adds some comedy as well playing the young vixen who works in a shop owned by Leslie Mann’s character Debbie.
This Is 40 is a wonderful comedy about life, love and arguing. It shows us what many of us have been through and what many of us will go through but it also shows that in life there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.
Apatow takes the reigns but still lets the characters breath so we can feel what they are feeling and be a part of there family and life.
I’m a big fan of Paul Judd since his Clueless days and he again doesn’t disappoint, by the way check out his quick stint on NBC’s Parks & Recreation, funny stuff.
This Is 40 is a well done sequel/spinoff comedy of Knocked Up and definitely makes me want to continue and follow this family and their lives because I know that there are people out there like this that I know too and I love that, it’s real and funny. Now I will say it can get a little raunchy so keep that in mind but go see This Is 40 for a dose of reality and comedic relief, congrats Mr. Apatow on another gem.
