Five people with knowledge of the conversations told The Times the arena could either be on the 298-acre site or an adjacent parcel. Either way, an arena would drive traffic to the planned mixed-use development and share parking with the $2.6-billion football stadium scheduled to open in 2019.

Talk about a Friday afternoon bombshell to spark conversation heading into the weekend.

The possibility of moving to the world-class sports and entertainment district being constructed in Inglewood must be intriguing to a Clippers team that currently shares the Staples Center with the Lakers and Kings, in addition to various other events constantly rolling through L.A. Live. Fred Roggin and Rodney Peete discussed the news as it broke, and both agree that AEG — who owns Staples Center — likely had something to do with the story.

Peete suggests that if the Clippers have an opportunity to join the Rams and Chargers in Inglewood, they would be best served to do so. Roggin cautions, however, that any talks are purely preliminary at this point.
